Altar Boys at Sacred Heart in Watrous, New Mexico
One of the tasks that the Catechists took on was the training of the altar boys. They would show the servers the necessary tasks that were required of them in assisting the priest at mass. They would also teach the boys the Latin prayers and responses that were needed to be recited during the mass. In many places it was common for the priest to show up for mass once or twice a month. In other places a visit might occur only once every two to three months. The Catechists were keeping the faith alive in between these visits.
